Elfwood Selections

One of the Top Three Wiki-Pages in the Wiki Awards! for the months of September/October/November

<img:stuff/eof23.jpg>

This wiki is about showing art and writing in www.Elfwood.com Anyone is free to make a feature. I [iippo], won't be making any more features here, (for my next stage you can join me in Selections), but if you want to make a feature, be my guest :)

<img:stuff/eof23.jpg>

Rules
-No featuring mod's choices. They get enough attention as it is. Also featuring an artist/writer who has plenty of mod's choices and is generally a very well-knows Wooder is not very nice. This is more about the unknown treasures in the Woods.
-No featuring anything that is part of a tour. Again, they get plenty of attention as it is.
-No featuring your own work. This wiki is for honouring others, not yourself, you selfish tit. And no, don't ask your friends to feature your work either. The wiki's point is also to get us Townspeople off the streets and into the Woods, wandering and searching for things.
-What you feature doesn't have to be the best thing ever in technique, since this is not a race or a contest. If a piece caught your eye because of the philosophical theme that touched your inner self in a way that nothing else ever has - even thought it's just a pencil sketch - you can feature it.

<img:stuff/eof23.jpg>

About the feature
-No sloppyness. Good spelling and grammar are important, as well as content: you have to discuss the piece, the why it is here and what you think of it. Both ups and downs, every piece has positive and negative sides. Write at least 10 sentences.
-It is recommended that you comment on the piece in Elfwood, telling the artist the same things you'll tell us here. You can also mention that you'll do a feature here.

About this feature:
I randomed across this picture and immediately delighted in its light mood and sweet spirit. It brings back vividly childhood summer memories of similar encounters with the fascinating creatures that we share the world with. So while the artistic execution isn't professional quality (mainly in terms of colour and background shading; her line quality and composition on the other hand leave you needing nothing more), I would argue that it doesn't have to be. Give me a drawing that actually has feeling and mood over Photoshop mastery any day. And that's why I give it now on to you :)

2006-09-05 [windowframe]: *haunt*

2006-09-05 [iippo]: Danke. Also. Now what? Should there be a list of people to see who's doing the feature at what time? Password? Forum protection?

2006-09-05 [windowframe]: How about people message you with the link & the blurb, and we/you sort it out. Ehm, then you could just password the page to stop loons ruining it.

2006-09-05 [Aradon Templar]: x.X And iippo takes off. Wiki done entirely while I was away at school. Mreh, I was never very good at writing the featured blurbs.

2006-09-06 [iippo]: o.O I had a rare burst of wiki-making. Must have been Silvie's potato-power rubbing off on me. But it should be someone else's feature next week, so get to it too, me lovelies.
Should there be a carrot? Something like "if you make a feature, you get *nifty thing here*"? A badge?

2006-09-06 [windowframe]: it might be better if you make the picture smaller on the page itself, so people click to enlarge.

2006-09-06 [iippo]: Arrite, thumby. (No, i'm not calling you a thumby, just... yeah. Thumbnail)

2006-09-06 [windowframe]: That's the word. :P I'm having vocab problems today, I keep forgetting the word 'curtains' and since we're tryiong to put a curtain rail up, it's annoying... the other one is... ehum... *forgot it again* I keep calling it a border though, except it's not a border... it's a ... thing. Tits. *asks Dan* Skirting board!

2006-09-06 [iippo]: Heh. So I order you or Tempie to do the next one? Who else is watching, there were three when Silvie made an appearance, so now there's two I'm not aware of. >_>  <_<

2006-09-06 [Perplexity]: Very cool idea - I must admit I haven't visited Elfwood in quite some time and it's been even longer since I updated my own gallery there. I just find more of a sense of community here in Elftown and like that instant gratification of uploading pics when I want. Thank you for taking the time to find really quality art to share with us here though, and remind me why I got involved with Elfwood in the first place! If I come across anything that really moves me, I will try to submit a feature here, too. Great work, [iippo]!

2006-09-06 [iippo]: Thanks Plex, I hope you'll feature someone, too :)
And for the 2 days that this wiki has really existed, it really has helped me spend more time in the Woods. *ish addicted to the random button*

2006-09-06 [Linderel]: *stalk*

2006-09-07 [Aradon Templar]: The random button for the win :D
Sadly, I have little initiative to do things, unless someone tells me specifically to do it ('Social loafing', according to my psychology class). So I'll take this as a hint to post the next one. When will it be updated? Weekly, for now? What day of the week, if so? Or, if not, when should I put up the next one? (By put up, I mean message to iippo. I read the page ^^')

2006-09-07 [iippo]: Yeah, I think weekly's ok. So changing around the 13th?
Oh, and I'll have to remember how to faff the past-version links as the archive. -_-

2006-09-07 [Aradon Templar]: I believe it's along the lines of: [The Elfwood Selections@wiki1]; just stick the page number at the end of the @wiki part.

2006-09-07 [iippo]: :) Hmm, I'll probably have to add the artist's name in the archive too, so someone doesn't get featured twice...

2006-09-15 [Lady Evangeline]: I love the idea of this Iippo! maybe a banner or two for those of us who'd like to advertise in our houses? I really hope this catches on because it's a wonderful way to bridge the gap!

2006-09-15 [iippo]: Thank you! Humm, badges, yes... I'll see what I can do (and if anyone else also likes making them, feel free. :)

2006-09-15 [RaineDagyr]: Great idea, Elfwood HAS grown too far out of people's minds. I started there and then came here. x.x

2006-09-19 [iippo]: Tomorrow's the 20th guys. Anyone coming up with a feature?

2006-09-19 [Perplexity]: Gotta browse. How many mod's choices are too many for an artist to have? I wanna choose someone who hasn't been up on the main page too much, but so many of the galleries that catch my eye have a few gold stars in them. I know the specific piece I choose cannot be a mod's choice, but what if the artist has some other good work to choose from?

2006-09-19 [iippo]: Well, when you can't count the stars with one glance or with the fingers of one hand (like 6+), it's starting to get to be a lot. But it does depend on the amount of images too, if there are 7 images of which 5 are mod's choices, it is a bit high as a percentage, and reversly if someone has 9 mods' in a full gallery of 100 images, there'll probably be some hidden treasures, too. :)

2006-09-19 [Perplexity]: ok, so I shall try to use my own best judgement. Which, hasn't failed me... too much...*cough*
lol

2006-09-19 [windowframe]: Does it matter if the gallery hasn't been updates for three or so years?

2006-09-19 [iippo]: No, I don't think it matters. Art is there, and it's timeless.

2006-09-19 [Lady Evangeline]: amen to that iippo!

2006-09-20 [Perplexity]: yay I contributed! =B

2006-09-20 [Aradon Templar]: :) danke. And nice find. I can't see one face that I'm sure is there. It must be staring me in the face, and I am just looking over it. Irks me :P

2006-09-27 [Perplexity]: Nice one, Silverfire - and very astute observations on your part.

2006-09-27 [windowframe]: Eek, I needed a thesaurus. :P I used the same words too many times. *shame*

2006-10-04 [Perplexity]: "Ever so slightly gay" LMAO Hey, only a really secure straight man can wear a pink shirt. Go, Peter, it's yer birthday! =D
I think you make some really good points though, iippo. Such good line art, but it's just feels so unfinished without an environment for him to be standing in. It is an interesting idea to superimpose the man and the superhero, though I am unsure about the execution here. I think it's a good starting point and that the artist should keep going with this idea!

2006-10-20 [iippo]: Sorry it's late (and early o.O).
And how damn hard has this ET pseudo-HTML gotten all of a sudden? >_> Took me like 6 edits to get the img tag working >.<;;;;;

2006-10-20 [Perplexity]: Oh beautiful Halloween themed selection! Nice find, iippo =D

2006-10-24 [iippo]: Feel free to make more features people :) Don't want this to be only about what I like.

2006-10-24 [Linderel]: Humm, I could. I already have a piece in mind. ^_^

2006-10-24 [iippo]: Brilliant!

2006-10-24 [Linderel]: On another note, it seems it's been a mod's choice. Which is no wonder, but darned be anyway.

2006-10-24 [Yoruno]: Wow... nice page ;) I'll keep an eye in this, I have quite a bunch of favorite Wooders *nods*

2006-10-25 [iippo]: Thankies. ^^ And Linderel, now I'm curious, could you give a link to the one you are on about here in th comments?

2006-10-25 [Linderel]: Yah... As soon as EW starts responding. <_<
'Tis this here: http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/art/h/0/h3six/blackunicorn.jpg.html

2006-10-27 [Perplexity]: Ah that is a very cool member here in ET named [H3_six] - she has AWESOME artwork!

2006-10-27 [Linderel]: Yup, I know. I have her house on watch. :P

2006-10-27 [Perplexity]: Me too, me too =9

2006-11-08 [iippo]: Grah, I fell out of sync with this and now I never remember when to update! -_-;; *gets to it* So sorry for all these irregularities.

2006-11-08 [Aradon Templar]: Remember, white-hot iron and I. *nods* I've been trying to get myself to do one again like I ought to, but... >.>

2006-11-10 [Perplexity]: It was your birthday recently - we can forgive you, [iippo]! ^_^

2006-11-10 [Sunrose]: Heh x)

2006-11-11 [Linderel]: This brings to mind 'The Dreamthief's Daughter' by Michael Moorcock. :3

2006-11-11 [iippo]: Hmm? Do elaborate, haven't heard of that one. *expects a book recommendation to come*

2006-11-11 [Linderel]: Eek! *tries* Well, it's a part of Moorcock's 'Eternal Champion' saga. Elric of Melniboné, an albino man from another reality, and Count Ulric von Bek, an albino man who has his own opinions of Nazism, try to keep this dark sword, a family inheritance, from getting into the wrong hands, as it's a very powerful item. Much chaos and confusion, both to the characters and the reader, ensues. I haven't actually finished the book, and its reading has been on hiatus for a while, but it is good. The style is interesting. First person imperfect perspective, and lots of instrospection. And then, there's the Grail.
The picture that's currently featured brings to mind when the Nazis are chasing the heroes in a strange underworld called Mu Ooria.

2006-11-23 [iippo]: Crump! I forgot this one again! Curse you real life distractions. Bleh, I'm such a scatterbrain. >.<
Anyone wanna have a go at the featuring?
Also *sets up a personal reminder alarm message to avoid forgetting it anymore*

2006-11-24 [GLASSALIEN]: o0o0o0o0 nice art ^-^

2006-11-27 [Linderel]: *has a feature* Shall I send it to you, [iippo]? :o

2006-11-27 [iippo]: Yeah, or you can also edit the page yourself if you don't mess up the format :P

2006-11-28 [Linderel]: I don't know how you've managed to make the image that small. <_<

2006-11-28 [iippo]: Just a normal img300-tag. o.O

2006-11-28 [Linderel]: Then how come don't I see it in the properties? :3 *pokes*

2006-11-28 [iippo]: The what-now? *eye bleeds from poking* >.T
See for yourself, click edit and see it in the code. Ah dunnoe nuffin else, I jus' woik 'ere. :P

2006-11-28 [Linderel]: Yup, there it is. Funny how I don't see it when I click to see the image properties, but ah well. :P

2006-11-28 [Sunrose]: I see it in the alternate text..

2006-11-28 [iippo]: A well, you can just leave the codes and stuff as it is and just put the URL and text in the existing code, that way you'll be sure to not mess up my format :P Or send it to me, I don't mind faffing it in.

2006-11-28 [xido]: I love the idea behind this page (and how wonderfully eloquent this page states it - "This wiki is for honouring others, not yourself, you selfish tit. And no, don't ask your friends to feature your work either. The wiki's point is also to get us Townspeople off the streets and into the Woods, wandering and searching for things."

Wonderful, simply wonderful.

Also, in connection with the Elfwood galleries, the next assignment on my Dragons class (Dragons - Biology, Sociology, and Magic) is to have students peruse Elfwood for dragon pictures and ask the artists if they would be willing to post them on our Dragon Artwork and Media page. When we have a few good samples, I will submit them or have a student submit them as an final assignment. Good idea?
-will

2006-11-28 [Linderel]: I shall send it to you, the fear of page edit is present. :P

2006-12-08 [iippo]: Many apologies for the constant delays. Please proceed to kick my butt now and next week too if I don't update often enough.
And please participate people! More features about art, fanart, writing!

2006-12-08 [shotokan_gal]: Ooh that's gorgeous! It reminds me (in a roundabout way) of a piece I saw the other week actually... now, I wonder if I kept that comment reply email ><

2006-12-08 [iippo]: Fantastic. :)

2006-12-29 [iippo]: I know the previous one didn't stay up for 7 days, but I had to catch up with my reminder message, which comes every 7 days :/ But from now on features will stay up for the week (unless I fall out of sync with my reminder message again >_>)

2006-12-30 [GLASSALIEN]: I wish ya'll a happy new year........... and bye, I won't be back to this wiki

2007-01-05 [iippo]: I'll just bring this up here as well because I'm just blown away: the parental ratings. It's like they came out of nowhere and suddenly everyone is giving a parental rating to their work. What's even more annoying and weird: most of the stuff that has got a parental rating isn't even that graphic. Even the slightest suggested gore or sexuality is now hidden behind a button that you have to press, then pixelised and then it loads the image - a pain in the butt for a slower connection. -_-
(If you don't know what I'm talking about: <URL:http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/(random)/art/f/i/fisi/bradkiller.jpg.html> for example)

2007-01-05 [shotokan_gal]: I noticed that yesterday :/ At least it doesn't demand a login like deviantart (I suppose I should just get an account there so I could view some people's work though). And it'll be because of demand, not least that annoying spammer who went on about violence and nudity, and changed names every few weeks >:(

2007-01-05 [windowframe]: If they have to have it, I feel it should be at the discreetion of the moderators, not the artists, since it seems some artists have no idea what merits censorship and what blatantly doesn't. What got me was how many pictures were suddenly censored, I was random viewing, and every other picture, at least, and sometimes three or four ina row, were censored. And when I actually looked at the pictures I was completely at a loss as to why the picture needed to be censored.

2007-01-05 [shotokan_gal]: It seems a bit odd that the level is 0-4 (with anything above 1, don't know if that's inclusive) being hidden. It might just promote misunderstanding with people giving their picture a 2 because it's 'in the middle somewhere', but doesn't necessarily need to be hidden. Though saying that haven't actually looked at how it's implemented and explained in the extranet yet.

2007-01-05 [windowframe]: Quoth Vel in the forums: 'Well, the rating drop-down menu reads:
General audience (no violence or sex)
Young (a little more normal)
Teen (people with wounds, but no nudity per say)
Mature (nudity, extremely violent, mature issues)'

2007-01-05 [shotokan_gal]: Ah, got to it eventually. That's still only 4 levels though, 0-4 (as described on the front page) is five numbers.

2007-01-05 [windowframe]: 0 - cute fluffy bunnies. :P

2007-01-06 [iippo]: I think it's from 1-4, 1 being general and 2 and above gots hidden. The ratings have always been, I think, but only recently it got the filter-things.

2007-01-06 [Linderel]: Yikes. I think you'd find me very unprofessional, too, with the things I say about my stuff. :P

2007-01-07 [iippo]: It's just the "this isn't good, the problem with this image is there and I know it and won't try to fix it or learn from it, now tell me it's good" -attitude. It makes me think "then why am I wasting my time looking at it?" >.< Everybody does the best they can at the time with a picture. Sure, you can go back to an old picture afterwards and say "I learned from the mistakes in this picture"... Meh. It happens so often, especially in contests here in ET. "Here's my entry, it's no good but I'll enter." >.< A pet peeve.

2007-01-07 [windowframe]: But the artist doesn't ask anyone to tell them it's good - and they acknowledge it's old - maybe they have learnt from it, and not all artists really want to fix old pictures. In contests, yes, it's annoying, 'this is so shit' - if you think it's shit, why enter it? But I really don't see that with this picture. :S

2007-01-07 [Linderel]: For me, my current level is pretty developed. xD But I still tend to say that it's not that good, because, well, compared to so many other people here, it really isn't. xD I'm learning as I go, though, and some days I don't even think it's that bad. :3

2007-01-07 [iippo]: The artist says "reserve judgement", and "don't look at the hands they are dire" - when in fact the hands are fine. They might be better, but that's not what the artist is saying (otherwise it could say "this and that could be different about the hands" or something like that). And "*shame*", grr. I dunno, maybe I've spent too much time in Professional Practice lectures, but this stuff irks me. No one is going to speak for the artist or his work unless he does it himself, and there are so many practitioners these days that anyone thinking "I'm not good enough" is going to get trampled - talent doesn't matter in it, only attitude. And I hate seeing an artist being kicked down, especially one who has a lot of talent, just because they were being "modest".
And Lin! What on Earth, you can't compare artists! And especially compare yourself to others! :O You can compare pieces of work (if they are in a contest or such), but never artists or their technique like that! :O Everyone's on their own in this stuff. Now you repeat after me: "Even though I have room to improve, I'm the best I can be at this particular time and place."
*gets over shock*

2007-01-07 [Linderel]: I can't? <_< Okay then. :P *repeats*
Even though I have room to improve, I'm the best I can be at this particular time and place.

2007-01-07 [windowframe]: *shrugs* I suppose I'm just very used to typical English-style modesty.

2007-01-07 [iippo]: That might be why they shove it at us so much in uni.

2007-01-10 [smakeupfx]: *compares [iippo] with DaVinci.... but by height*  hehe

2007-01-11 [iippo]: *is taller* Yay! Oh, wait, yeah, that's because he lived way back when people were midgets. :/

2007-01-12 [iippo]: -_- EW down. Did anybody happen to prepare a feature that has the image URL (since EWancient isn't down) all picked out and such? (My reserves are just links to the galleries >.<)

2007-01-12 [Linderel]: If no one else has anything, I could try to get one done today. :3

2007-01-12 [iippo]: Excellent! Linderel to the rescue! And feel free to just edit the page, my evening-time net access has diminished.

2007-02-02 [iippo]: Can't believe I'm lagging with this again. -_- So sorry. Feel free to feature things, people!

2007-02-04 [Linderel]: Lockhart. xD *moan* I don't particularly fangirl anyone from those books... well, except pairings, but that's another thing altogether.

2007-02-04 [iippo]: There are so many ways to interpret "moan"... Well, at least two, so I'll just go for the gutterminded one and fix my feature into "absolutely nobody's except [Linderel]'s crush" :P

2007-02-04 [Linderel]: Don't you dare. *whacks with pillow*

2007-02-04 [iippo]: ...wow. That is the very first remote-attack ever that does not make my eye bleed (I get poked alot... long story). I might have to make up a new response. Or steal PUNK's and get hit in the head...

2007-02-04 [Linderel]: Pillow is my primary weapon. Well, I use the encyclopaedia a lot, too...

2007-02-04 [iippo]: A lot more than my eye might bleed if you whacked me with an encyclopaedia. Well, unless it was a minature one, or an online one.

2007-02-04 [Linderel]: I don't currently own an actual encyclopaedia, so I think it would be an online one. I only have dictionaries. <3

2007-02-09 [iippo]: Just realised that I'm two days early this time. Blast it, I just can't get this feature-jig right, can I? >.O

2007-02-16 [iippo]: Anyone feel like doing a feature?

2007-02-17 [Yncke]: I know some images that would fit here, but I'm lousy at writing why I like them. :s

2007-02-17 [iippo]: o.O Lousy? You? I'm having trouble understanding those two words in context with each other... :D

2007-02-17 [Yncke]: You flatter me, [iippo], but I do lack the vocabulary to properly talk about images.

2007-02-17 [iippo]: I was trying to figure out ways to get this wiki more attention... Honestly, when starting it off I thought there'd be queues of people's features lined up, waiting for me to just put them up... o.O;

Anyhoo, I was thinking of a contest, where people's entries would be a feature. So who finds the most creative and amazing thing in EW to make a feature about would win as well as the person who'd write the best feature. And the prize would be... Elfwood merchanidise maybe?

2007-02-17 [windowframe]: Sounds good to me: a contest that gets people searchign through Elfwood? Can't be a bad thing. O.o

2007-02-17 [iippo]: Just realised that I again forgot the fact that EW has writings as well. ;>_> Unless text and images can be compared in finding the "most amazing thing" (finding a good text is more difficult, though... takes longer because you need to read, can't just glance like with pictures...)

2007-03-02 [iippo]: Instead of a feature this week, we'll have a beatch-ure: why is EW down, why why whine whine, bitch bitch... :P
Did anyone happen to have an image for a possible feature stashed away anywhere again, since EWancient seems fine...? (I really should have learnt from the last time this happened and saved some image url's in case of another occurence... >.<) Linderel?

2007-03-02 [Sunrose]: There's a problem with the powersupply, Thomas has a new one but [Hedda] can't help install it if Thomas doesn't give it to him. Thomas appears to be pretty busy and overworked. Something along those lines...

2007-03-02 [Linderel]: No, nothing here. ._. I've been a bad girl. <_<

2007-03-11 [iippo]: EW back. Feature anyone?

2007-04-15 [Sunrose]: Miew..

2007-04-18 [Perplexity]: =B

2007-04-19 [iippo]: Features people! Please!!!!oneone

2007-05-11 [iippo]: *sigh* This wiki has failed. :( It didn't get Elftowners strolling in the Woods, it didn't get anybody making any extra effort for communication between EW and ET. The gap between the two is just too big, nobody cares and nobody bothers to make the effort to try. :(

2007-05-11 [Linderel]: I have a piece I'd like to feature, but I don't currently have time to be writing about it. :/

2007-05-11 [windowframe]: At the moment, I'm not sure I *want* anything to do with Elfwood.

2007-05-23 [iippo]: This is cool: Give constructive criticism.

2007-07-19 [Sunrose]: Personally the part where you have to discuss the piece scares me away. I'm not very good at that.
But in general the more work you ask people to do, the less inclined they are to do it. Not everyone has the time or the wish to put that effort in. That doesn't mean they don't like this wiki though.
If you'd ask for nominations only, I think more people would stroll through the woods looking for pieces they can nominate.
But that would mean most of the work would have to be done by you. And so you'd have to decide if it's worth it for you.
I do like this wiki, but I have enough work to do on my own feature wiki to start looking through Elfwood too and write so much about my finds. I've actually started writing less and less about my own features, because my goal is not to criticise but simply to show what we've got. My own opinion is not so important, because it matters more what the watchers think (even though I base my picks on my own preferences).

2007-07-23 [iippo]: Hmm, point. :/ But I do want to get people to speak up about the work too, just looking feels so passive, I want the thoughts that the work raise to be shared too... Will think about it.

2007-07-23 [Sunrose]: Hmm this is indeed something to think about..maybe create some kind of commentformat?
List a number of criteria that people could say something about..

2007-07-27 [iippo]: Bah. You know what - I'll just do it my way, and if no one wants to contribute, then you'll all just have to be brainwashed by my opinions. :P At least it'll be art-talk practice for me. ^^;

2007-07-27 [Sunrose]: Heh :P

2007-08-04 [Linderel]: Cowboy Bebop is not just a movie! The series is much better :O

2007-08-04 [Calico Tiger]: Yeah XD The fridge episode is my fave >:3 But agreed that it's a gorgeous image with the camera angle and the feeling of movement :D

2007-08-04 [Linderel]: It brings to mind Spike's battle scenes... he's so cool. ^_^

2007-08-04 [windowframe]: Whheeeeeee. <3

2007-09-22 [Lady Evangeline]: Absolutely love this one! It's perfect, and I've never seen anything like this before. Great work.

2007-09-22 [Calico Tiger]: Agreed! They're so pretty. I want one as a familiar in my d&d game :D

2007-10-11 [Lady of Lore]: [iippo] i won't let your wiki die ^_^ I'll feature it on the Art store and I'll get back into gear of recruiting members. ^_^ Does that sound good to you?

2007-10-11 [iippo]: I won't let it die either ^_^; Thank you, And if you could (get people to) write features, that's the best way to keep it going :) If not I'll do one tomorrow. I try to update on fridays, but I was travelling one friday and then uploaded on a monday and then my rhythm went all wrong and I tried to re-pace myself and get back to the Friday rhythm this week. Hopefully it'll work.
But more features from other people would be great. I'm tired of reading only what I have to say, >_>

2008-10-31 [Hedda]: Should I maybe add an art feature category on reviews? Makes it easier to get suggestions about new features.

2008-11-01 [iippo]: If you do add an art section, I think it should be mainly aimed at famous stuff, or in the least outside-ET stuff -- not Elftowners personal things. Someone giving another Elftowner a bad review wouldn't really help with the whole community feel, it'd feel like people here are really snobbish (especially if the artist thought it was the best thing they'd done so far).
I'd say leave Elftowners' stuff for featured art/wiki/poem etc... on Main Street and use reviews for things people want to tell other people about.

Is there a music section? How bout a YouTube/online video section?

2008-11-01 [Hedda]: Well, music is "stuff" at the moment. <img:stuff/dand-gif.gif>

I don't see a point of making a review of some art or other link that sucks. That's just pointless.

But if there is a linked art category, then it seems odd to not allow people to post other Elftowners' art too.

2008-11-01 [iippo]: It's not pointless. The point of a review is not to tell everyone of something really cool (though most people will use it like this, I imagine), the point is to tell everyone what you think. Loads of people do that with movies ("I went to see That Stupid Movie and it sucked, and this is why, and therefore no one should bother going to see it in my opinion") so if you see anything that annoyed you enough to tell everyone that you think it sucks, you would.

I can understand you probably don't get that a lot from art, but artists do. Sometimes the work other people do is really annoying; sometimes it is made even more annoying by the fact that so many people seem to like it and not see how annoying and stupid it really is. I've had this happen a number of times on ET, but I tend to go by the "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" -principle in those cases -- but I can name 10 active Elftowners of the top of my head (some of my dearest friends included, so not just trouble-makers either) who wouldn't keep quiet, who would rave off and say "this stuff by That User really sucks, and this is why I think so." That would be a review - but not very helpful for the whole community thing, because it would cause strife and annoyance.

I strongly recommend leaving Elftowners' stuff for the main street features. And it won't be any odder to have an art category and not put ETers stuff on than it is to have a book category and not put ETers writings, or a website category and not put ETers wikipages.

2008-11-01 [Hedda]: It's very pointless with a review saying that an images is bad because anyone see that for themselves with a click. It takes way more time to read a review about it. Unlike a film or a thing that you have to buy before you know it's good.

Generally I don't see much point in doing critics on images at all by using this system (That's why it isn't allowed at the moment). But I do see a point of sending "Hey, this was good!" to people. It's better to use the Invite-function to invite people to a wiki fan-page then.

A website review works fine for galleries though.

2008-11-03 [iippo]: Ah, I hought we were talking about more than just one image (galleries, exhibitions, websites of artists, etc... which at the moment fit well under 'event' or 'website' categories). You're right, one image review doesn't make sense no matter if it's done by an Elftowner or someone famous - it'd be more like an analysis or feature (like this page does) rather than a review.

2010-02-23 [Daisy le Fleur]: Need new features woman!

2010-02-23 [windowframe]: Woman is currently away on a mission for 18 months (see her house for details) :3

2010-02-23 [Daisy le Fleur]: Awww man! that would explain the absense.. THank you ;)

2010-10-08 [Lothuriel]: I miss this wiki. Perhaps our [iippo] will feel like revising once she comes home.

2010-10-08 [windowframe]: YOu should help her out by preparing a load of features and bombarding her in PMs with them. :3 (everyone should, not just Loth >:P)

2010-10-08 [Lothuriel]: hehe....I think I might just do that

2010-10-08 [Linderel]: I haven't been to Elfwood in, like... a year at least o_o

2010-10-09 [Lothuriel]: I need to update mine big time.

2010-10-09 [windowframe]: I think I deleted mine. <_<

2010-10-09 [Lothuriel]: *gasP*

2010-10-09 [windowframe]: someone showed me a selection of images that were about to be deleted by the mods for breaking the rules, (rules like 'everything in the image must have an English translation in your description', which is, imo, an absolutely retarded rule anyway) and one image just had a few runes on a sword, and they were deleting it for lack of translation. Another was being deleted for being poor quality because there was a small black line down the left hand of the image. So annoyance at stupid rules, combined with the fact that so little I draw is overtly fantasy/sci-fi anyway, meant I didn't see much point in keeping it. <_<

2010-10-10 [Lothuriel]: I have to agree with you on the stupid rules part. I argued fruitlessly (that's probably mispelled) over this image --> <img100*0:http://elftown.eu/img/drawing/93740_1171067110.jpg> because the mod claimed it was directly copied from this <img100*0:http://www.humina.com/kurban/eomer-promo2.jpg>. I tried to explain..yes I copied the armor BUT the face is my husband. I even sent the mod the reference picture I used of Mr. Man, who in fact does look a lot like Karl Urban. The mod eventually threatened to delete my account if I didn't drop it. I deleted my account but, eventually started a new one. Heck, they even threw a fit over my Star Wars fan art because i didn't give George Lucas credit for the characters. Even though, I had clearly stated the Title, author, and that the characters were copyrighted and not my originals from the book The Bounty Hunter Tales. So yeah, I understand your reasoning.

2010-10-10 [Lothuriel]: I would like to note too that if you open the pics side by side, the expression and the facial features are very diff.

2011-03-24 [iippo]: *is complimented by people liking the wiki* I should bring this back to life, now that I'm back to life. But I do love that klingon fanart a little longer :3

2011-04-29 [Lothuriel]: Yes you most certainly should revive us!

2011-04-30 [iippo]: There. :) *is reminded how much fun this is* :D

2011-05-01 [Lothuriel]: <img:stuff/dand-gif.gif>

2011-07-21 [iippo]:
Hey everybody, I'm done with this one, but you can all follow along and start watching selections, which is the same idea except all art that I see around and study, not limited to Elfwood.

If you want to keep making features on this page, you can do that :)
